Casa Coupage

I have visited quite a few restaurants since I moved to Buenos Aires and I will begin with the best so far. There is a whole trend of the hidden restaurants called "puerta cerrada" or closed door. You come over to a chef's house and share a home made gourmet meal with other guests; just as if you were going to someone's house for a dinner, only you pay for it. On another note, don't we always pay for it in one form or another? Well...Casa Coupage is worth every penny.

Casa Coupage started its operations in the apartment of the owner and sommelier, Santiago Mymicopulo. Santiago did pretty well with his little business experiment and since December you can enjoy your dinner in a rented house in Palermo Hollywood. I am not sure if the chef is also one of the owners but if he isn't, well too bad because he/she really deserves a chunk of this pie. It is by far one of the best, if not the best, dinners I have had in Buenos Aires so far. And do not be fooled...it is the house of a sommelier and you will notice.

We ordered the degustation menu with a wine "tasting" of five wines. A perfectly balanced seven course meal begun with an appetizer of veggies rolled into a flower and perfectly seasoned to tingle your appetite. The wine tasting begun with two types of white wine, if you have any grape preferences they will be adjusted for your liking. While were sipping on the butter/vanilla chardonnay and the crispy fresh sauvignon blanc, we could taste some salmon tar-tar. A hint...the "tasting" wine glasses never get empty. Afterwards we moved on to the steak appetizer (jokes aside, although small it was one of the best pieces of steak I have had around here) paired with tasting of pinot noir, cabernet, and and malbec....again, the glasses are never empty. This picture gets a bit blurry going forward but long story short, loving chef and lovely sommelier. Worth the search and every pesito you spend.

My only recommendation goes to the decoration of the place. The house is beautiful with old stylish architecture inside; however, it is desperately asking for paintings and I think that the decorative vinyls would do the trick. You tell me.
