Spicy Chocolate Pops

Crunchy sweetness on a stick...with a little something to spice up your day.

If some of my recipes are pure improvisation, this one is from the out of space of the back of my brain.

It's a bit unusual in the sense that it is really hard and crunchy (I like), but if you are not a fan of exercising your beautiful teeth, you can always add the usual bit of flower, milk, butter, and egg mixture. Also, though I like it sweet, I think I'm sweet enough myself so I don't over do it with the sugar. Expect the richness of dark chocolate with only a touch of sugar. Suite yourself to add more if you wish.

Hungry for Romance: aphrodisiac cookbooks

I am gathering a list of aphrodisiac cookbooks as part of some research that I am doing and I thought I'd share some of them with you.

Here are a few to play around with in the intimacy of your (or someone else's) kitchen. Happy romancing :)

Music as an Aphrodisiac

Recently I had yet another opportunity to be surrounded by my lovely friends and one story stuck in my little wondering head...it's a story of music and how it has connected and changed us over the years.

My friend was telling us how he used to listed to Italian pop, then to commercial electronic beats, the classic disco beats, and now we have a whole new genre of music that connects us. We were trying to name it and it ended up being the "sexy house".

What I love about it the most is that it has no borders as I personally don't believe in them anyway. Music connects same minded people from around the World and through music, they can understand each other and connect on another level, which one really can't explain. Music is international, no matter which speaking language the artist is actually using. A bit like sex when you think of it.

Music can make you happy, sad, laugh, cry, remember people and moments in life, dream about the future, give you hope, give you energy, and feel the World around you. A bit like love when you think of it.

A good music artist can manipulate his or her audience in whichever way they want to as we react to vibration around us. Therefore, music is the ultimate aphrodisiac, because "Music is the Answer" (A. Benoin).

The Art of Loving is the Act of Giving

From roses to avocados to ginger to...I won't even go there because today it is a different kind of love we are talking about. It is the pure, innocent, often unappreciated unconditional love called friendship. And we all need to be reminded of its existence once in a while, but how?

Well, if you are a lucky one like me :) :) :)

First of all, too much mezcal is always good. And yes, mezcal is an aphrodisiac. I have heard of people having orgasms in the middle of restaurants after those. I can't assure you it's true but that's what I have been told. Too much mezcal can also get you all the way to Miami, and for the Winter Music Conference too!!! A proven fact that is.

This post is dedicated to Don Travis; unconditional, abundant, american (love it or screw you), World Citizen. Let's spice up Mr. Worm shall we?

Marinita, you can watch :p .... love you both

Chicken in Rose Petal Sauce

Isn't chicken such a love bird?

This dish is a complete improvisation of what was going to be a quail, but surprisingly innovation often has its roots in improvisation so here you go; more accessible in terms of ingredients and equally seductive and delicious Rose Petal Chicken.

A side note to all you love boys: Next time, just buy a bunch of beautiful roses for your girl and smile nicely, be gentle, be charming, be different, stand out. Maybe you can get a lovely dinner out if it :)  But remember, organic only or else it may not end up to sexy for neither of you.

The perfect pairing wine for this little bird is a Pinot Noir from the Argentine vineyard La Septima Noche. Light, smooth, yet rich, in remembrance of my excessively late night dinners in Buenos Aires. At the end of the day (or night) it takes two to tango.

Oh la la, I'm almost inclined to make my favorite Buenos Aires desert, which is just asking to be the next in line. Shall I? It may explode. It is a volcano, an active one.

But first things first, here goes the love bird:

Champagne and Rose Petal Sorbet

Brain freeze or heart freeze?

This is a good variation to the Champagne and Rose Pops. Same product, different package. You tell me if the same experience.

Champagne and Rose Petal Ice-Pops

These babies are not only flavor, but certainly a passion explosion. Elegant, bubbly, surprisingly fresh, and smell like roses. Oh and you better hand them into your victim's hand (or mouth) right away or else it's sweet champagne all over (which on the other hand wouldn't be so bad either ;)

You still need to work your charm, as always, but I guarantee you one thing that can be pretty powerful; and element of surprise. And here is the how to:

Persian Breakfast

After this morning meal you may just discover your 1001st night :)

Organic Roses: not as common as you think

All ladies love flowers. There is no question about this. It's simple genetics really. Kind of like chocolate. But, what if you can not only receive (or give of course) a spectacular bouquet of roses but instead of admiring their daring bloody looks and arousing smell, you can also taste them? You could go the extra mile there in terms of lady seduction.

As part of my adventure into the world of aphrodisiacs, I have been hunting for either roses or other seductive flower flavors. I do have experiments scattered around my fridge and freezer either marinating or freezing and they will be out here once finished but  before, I would like to note a piece of advice.

La Figa: Visions of Food and Form

Chef Tiberio Simone calls himself the "pleasure activist" as he connects food with touch and vision. The photographer, Matt Freedman, on the other had is the perfect companion to capture and document the essence of this pleasure.

La Figa is a photographic and culinary journey through our connection with the food. At La Figa, food becomes paint and bodies become canvas. Makes me hungry for....

InterCourses for your senses

When Martha and Randall first created the book they were just a couple of 25 year old creative rebels. They were inspired by the effect which food can have on your senses and emotions and they had the creative ability to connect these foods to our bodies, literary.

InterCourses is a lovely example of how we can see, perceive, and use food as aphrodisiacs. Full of stories, tasty recipes, and art, this book can spice up your romantic dinner anytime you open your mind and stomach for a little adventure beyond the simple act of eating.

I will certainly explore some of their recipes and make good notes on them; however, in the meantime, here is the preview of Ben Fink's photography. Aphrodisiacs or not?

Aphrodisiac Herbs and Spices

Photo from "The Mistress of Spices"

Following my previous post, the following spices have had a long reputation of having aphrodisiacal properties…and they are a few
Aniseed (Mediterranean) is a very popular aphrodisiac with many culinary uses. It has been used as an aphrodisiac since the Greeks and the Romans, who believed aniseed had special powers. Sucking on the seeds is said to increases your desire.

What makes an aphrodisiac?

Foto by Matt Freedman from "La Figa" by Tiberio Simone

I have been inspired recently by a few aphrodisiac cookbooks and their chefs. Some have great recipes, some provoke with their creative photography, some are just sexy, and all have good stories.

I also found out that apparently the US Food and Drug Administration “FDA” does not recognize food as aphrodisiacs. According to the FDA the “curing” effects of these jewels have not been scientifically proven and hence you may not claim your passion as direct relation to your partners cooking skills unless they literary drug you for such purpose.

So what exactly makes an aphrodisiac?

The Plants of the Gods

This post is inspired by a combination of the thoughts from my spiritual friends, readings of Alejandro Jodorwsky (recommended by the spiritual friends) and my own reflections on life, nature, and the beautiful World in which we live in.

The way I see it, we live in various worlds and different realities depending on were we are in our lives at a time and what we inspire to become. I particularly have my both feet too glued to the reality, or so I think sometimes, and I do admire the ones that reach a profound spiritual journey. I live bye the “work hard, play hard” sort of rule, but to be honest I am somewhere in between. Bla, bla, bla, this is something magical, spiritual, mystical, call it whatever you want……rocks my brains.

The hallucinogenic plants are regarded by some in Mexico as the gifts of the Gods as they illuminate you, your self, your fears, your passions. The healing experience can be a life changing experience for many who dare to give into the unknown and the unconscious. Here goes your list:

Ginger Limonade

Ginger is a natural body tonic and lime is just pure vitamin C.  This drink may just create one of the most refreshing moments you will experience this summer.  It will leave your body clean, fresh, and happy.

Chiles en Nogada

Chile en Nogada comes from Puebla to your table celebrating the freedom of Mexico.  This refined Mexican dish was created by the nuns from Puebla to celebrate the independence of Mexico.  The characteristic of this dish is that it has the three colors of the Mexican flag: white for religion, green for independence, and red for union.
