Buenos Aires: Sunday

Sunday is a busy day. Today you should definitely visit La Boca and San Telmo. I left these two for Sunday because the antique market in San Telmo is on Sunday and it is certainly one of the main attractions here.

First visit San Telmo. This is the one of the oldest neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, which has preserved the colonial feeling and bohemian charm. The main attraction here is the antique market located right on Plaza Dorrego. The whole neighborhood is full of cafes, antique shops, and tango places. The best way to feel is to just relax, walk around the market and the small streets, and have a coffee in one of the street cafes and people watch. There are a lot of artists singing and dancing on the streets so you will be well entertained.
Caseros

Lunch: choose between Caseros or La Brigada for a proper parilla.

Caseros is a casual, country style restaurant serving quality food with semi-opened kitchen so you can see what is going down your belly and yes…it’s all nice and fresh. The restaurant is located near Parque Lezama, on Avenida Caseros 486, formerly a nest of the rich Brits.

La Brigada

La Brigada is a traditional Argentine parilla located on Estados Unidos 465 in San Telmo. You can eat a whole cow there as far as I’m concerned.

La Boca
After lunch head towards La Boca. It is a crossing of two to three streets literary by the river where the first Italian immigrants were living. They were poor and were building their shelter out of sheets of metal and wood. Since it looked very sad and we all know that the Italians are happy people, they painted the whole place with bright colors, which is the highlight of the place today. One of the streets is Caminito, where you can find a row of restaurants, each showcasing tango and other national dances right by the entrance. I would not recommend having lunch there as the food quality vs. price is 100% tourist rip off but do sit down for some Quilmes and watch a dance. You can even try your luck with one of the performers (dancing of course).

Another reason why Boca is so famous is because of La Bombonera, the home of Boca Juniors, one of the most famous Argentine football clubs. Maradona played there I believe. And that is why on Sunday you are going to see a football game at La Boca or you can just visit the stadium. You can book a tour or buy the tickets from Tangol.
