Buenos Aires: Wednesday

Palermo, and to be more specific Palermo Soho, is by far my favorite neighborhood of Buenos Aires. It is always full of life. Monday through Sunday the local artesans spread their hand made goods all along the stone streets of Palermo Soho and are perfectly complemented with the wide array of boutique shops where the local designers make a name for themselves. You can find anything from random Pop Art to fancy Polo shops and street markets. You can easily spend hours shopping around and stopping for break at the coffee shops with balconies overlooking the streets and plenty of tables right on the street. Plaza Armenia is the best place for people watching and taking a break.

On Plaza Armenia, Limbo Club has the best terrace and Limbo Restaurant has a decent bar and also a nice terrace. If you go there and its summer time and you feel like a glass of white wine, ask for Animal. Great quality to value.

The main shopping streets are Garruchaga, El Salvador, and Armenia but really you should just walk around that whole area between Plaza Armenia and Plaza Serrano and discover it on your own. Every time I go there I discover something new. Sometimes I wonder if the shops change every other weekend or what’s the deal.

Popular brands for the ladies are: Chocolate, Delaostia, Las Oreiro (amazing dresses), Rapsodia, Uma, Via Uno, Vitamina.

Popular brands for the boys are: Etiqueta Negra, O’Assian…sorry guys you just have to figure it out yourself.

For the afternoon culture in the area check if there are any interesting expos in La Rural and go to MALBA. If there is a good expo in La Rural, do not postpone it till the weekend or you will be condemned to a three hour line around the block and nothing is worth such a waste of time.

BA night out - let the fun begin…

Ok I don’t even where to start here. Also please not that the BA night out sections are very specific to the days of the week. If I tell you to go to a certain bar or a restaurant on Wednesday…do not postpone it for a Thursday ok?

Option #1: culture
Late afternoon theater play at Teatro Colon (buy tickets in advance) followed by a lovely dinner at Juana M in Recoleta. The restaurant looks like an art gallery full of paintings by the local artists and on Wednesdays, they have live music. You can choose from various meat and fish dishes and if you are not very hungry, they have a salad bar for about 30 pesos. This place is a secret.

Juana M: Carlos Pellegrini 1535, Recoleta, Tel: (11) 4326-0462

Option#2: after office
BA is also known for its “after office” parties if you want to hit the bar directly and not have to wait till 2am for the clubs to open. During the summer I recommend Terrazas del Este (overlooking the river), Godoy, or L’Abeille (the most posh of the three). All turn into a club/bar so you can just stay on. A good time to go into an after office is around 10pm.

Option#3: drinks & party
Last but not least you can start around 11pm/midnight at Frank’s Bar. You walk in through a phone booth and you need a secret code to get in but if you flip your eyelashes enough that will also work. At around 2am you can start hitting the clubs: check out Pacha, Crobar, and Bahrain for electronic music.

The clubs get full at around 3am but I recommend going early (at 2am) because otherwise you either wait in a horrible long degrading line or do not get in at all.
